ORIGIN
The handmade prototype was initially commissioned as the focal point of the short film “Sole Obsession”. It was destroyed in the filming of the project.

REFINE
The design has been updated with new molded TPU elements, reinforced stitching, and other construction improvements.

CORRECT
The latest sample missed the intended purple; production will return closer to the handmade original.
The handmade original remains the color target. Latest factory samples are shown for construction reference while the purple is corrected.

DORMANT
Live Coal begins as an understated triple-black shoe. Perfect for everyday wear.

ABRADE
Skating wears through the toe and other high-friction leather panels, it reveals the red leather underneath the black topcoat.

IGNITE
The black leather becomes increasingly red as it is skated, becoming a more vibrantly colored sneaker

Designed and handmade the original SK8002 around premium materials, layered construction and the way I wanted the shoe to perform on a board.
02 / TRANSLATION
MAKE IT REPEATABLE
Moved flexible support and strap reinforcement into molded production pieces while retaining the shoe’s key performance architecture.
03 / TESTING
SKATE BEFORE SCALE
The latest factory samples are now in hand. Wear testing will validate fit, durability and the Live Coal’s wear away effect before final production starts.

I’m a SCAD-trained product and UX designer who built the first SK8002 by hand. The shoe brings together independent footwear design, years of sneaker obsession and the practical feedback that only comes from skating your own work.
